SILTRUST™ RTV60 – (Red) High-Strength, High-Temperature Two-Part Silicone Rubber Compound

SILTRUST™ RTV60 is a red, two-component, solvent free silicone rubber compound engineered for high strength, high temperature potting, encapsulation, mould making, and industrial release applications. Supplied as a base with dibutyl tin dilaurate (DBT) curing agent, RTV60 cures at room temperature to form a tough, durable elastomer that retains excellent mechanical integrity continuously at temperatures up to 260°C (500°F) with a short term resistance to 316°C (600°F).

With a high-viscosity paste consistency (47,000 cps), RTV60 is ideal for applications requiring minimal flow, such as vertical mould walls, thick section gaskets, or structural potting where material stability during cure is critical. Its adjustable work and cure times via catalyst concentration or alternative curing agents provide flexibility for both manual and automated production. RTV60 delivers among the highest tensile strength (990 psi) and tear resistance (40 pli) in the SILTRUST high-temp series, making it suitable for demanding mechanical and thermal environments.

Key Features

  • High-temperature performance: Continuous use up to 260°C (500°F); intermittent up to 316°C (600°F)
  • Paste consistency – minimal slump, ideal for vertical or thick-section applications
  • Two-part, room-temperature cure system – no moisture dependency
  • Solvent-free formulation – no shrinkage, odour, or VOC emissions
  • Adjustable pot life (0.75–2+ hours) by varying DBT catalyst (0.1–0.5%)
  • Excellent electrical insulation and thermal stability

Exceptional mechanical strength:

  • Tensile strength: 990 psi
  • Tear strength: 40 pli
  • Shore A hardness: 57

Typical Applications

  • Potting and encapsulation of high stress electric motors, transformers, and power modules
  • Fabrication of custom high-temp gaskets and structural rubber components
  • Mould making for low-melting-point metal casting (e.g., zinc, tin), where dimensional stability is critical
  • Industrial release layers for rollers, tooling, and thermal insulation systems

Technical Notes

  • Mix ratio: 0.5% DBT by weight (standard); as low as 0.1% for extended work time
  • Work time: ~2 hours at 25°C (77°F) with 0.5% DBT
  • Full cure: 24 hours at 25°C (77°F) and 50% RH
  • Adhesion: Requires primer (e.g., SS4004) for bonding to non-silicone substrates.
  • Degassing is recommended to eliminate entrapped air before the cure
  • Deep-section post-cure conditioning recommended for service above 150°C (302°F): ramp in 50°C increments to final temperature

Packaging Options

  • Available as a kit containing the base compound and DBT curing agent in a 457g can.
