SILTRUST™ RTV31 – (Red) High Temperature Two-Part Silicone Rubber Compound

SILTRUST™ RTV31 is a red, two-component, solvent-free silicone rubber compound engineered for high temperature potting, encapsulation, mould making, and release applications. Supplied as a base with dibutyl tin dilaurate (DBT) curing agent, RTV31 cures at room temperature to form a durable, high strength elastomer that retains flexibility and performance continuously at temperatures up to 260°C (500°F) with short-term resistance to 316°C (600°F).

With a moderate viscosity (25,000 cps), RTV31 offers excellent pourability for intricate moulds and deep section potting while maintaining dimensional stability. Its adjustable work and cure times via catalyst concentration or alternative curing agents provide flexibility for manual or automated production. RTV31 is ideal for demanding electrical, industrial, and foundry applications where thermal resilience and mechanical integrity are critical.

Key Features

  • High-temperature performance: Continuous use up to 260°C (500°F); intermittent up to 316°C (600°F)
  • Two-part, room-temperature cure system – no moisture dependency
  • Solvent-free formulation – no shrinkage, odour, or VOC emissions
  • Adjustable pot life (0.75–2+ hours) by varying DBT catalyst (0.1–0.5%)

Excellent mechanical properties:

  • Tensile strength: 870 psi
  • Shore A hardness: 54
  • Tear strength: 29 pli
  • Good electrical insulation and thermal stability
  • Compatible with primers (e.g., SS4004) for strong adhesion to metals, ceramics, and plastics

Typical Applications

  • Potting and encapsulation of high-temp electric motors, transformers, and coils
  • Mould making for low melting point metal casting (e.g., zinc, tin, pewter)
  • Fabrication of custom high temp rubber parts and gaskets
  • Release layers for metal rollers, tooling, and industrial surfaces
  • Thermal insulation and protective coatings in aerospace and energy systems

Technical Notes

  • Mix ratio: 0.5% DBT by weight (standard); as low as 0.1% for extended work time
  • Work time: ~2 hours at 25°C (77°F) with 0.5% DBT
  • Full cure: 24 hours at 25°C (77°F) and 50% RH
  • Adhesion: Requires primer (e.g., SS4004) for bonding to non-silicone substrates.
  • Degassing is recommended to eliminate entrapped air before cure
  • Deep-section post-cure conditioning recommended for service above 150°C (302°F)

Packaging Options

  • Available as a kit containing the base compound and DBT curing agent in a 457g can.
