SILTRUST™ RTV627 – Flame-Retardant, Two-Component Addition-Cure Silicone for Electronics Potting

SILTRUST™ RTV627 is a dark grey, two-component, 100% solids, addition-cure silicone rubber compound engineered for flame-retardant potting and encapsulation of high-reliability electronic assemblies. Supplied in matched 1:1 by weight or volume kits, RTV627 offers easy mixing, low viscosity (1,270 cP), and excellent flow into complex geometries, making it ideal for both manual and automated production lines.

Cured at room temperature or accelerated with mild heat, RTV627 forms a rigid, flame-retardant elastomer that protects sensitive components against thermal shock, vibration, moisture, dust, and chemicals without exotherm or solvents. Its UL 94 V-0 rating at 3.2 mm thickness and compliance with explosive atmosphere standards (AS/NZS 60079.18) make it suitable for power electronics, industrial controls, and safety-critical applications.

Key Features

  • UL 94 V-0 flame retardant (3.2 mm) / V-1 (1.34 mm)
  • 1:1 mix ratio by weight or volume – simplifies dispensing and ensures consistency
  • Low mixed viscosity (1,270 cP) – excellent flow for intricate potting and deep-section encapsulation
  • No solvents or cure by-products – non-exothermic, hydrolytically stable, reversion resistant
  • Wide service temperature range: –60°C to 204°C (–75°F to 400°F)
  • High hardness (62 Shore A) and good tensile strength (475 psi) for mechanical protection

Typical Applications

  • Potting of high-voltage transformers, power supplies, and voltage regulators
  • Encapsulation of power converters and industrial control modules
  • Protection of electronic assemblies in explosive or hazardous environments
  • Flame-resistant encapsulation where deep-section cure and long-term reliability are required

Certifications & Compliance

  • UL 94 V-0 (3.2 mm) / V-1 (1.34 mm) – File tested per UL standard
  • AS/NZS 60079.0:2005 & 60079.18:2005 – Certified for encapsulation in explosive gas atmospheres
  • Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI): 37.8% – indicating excellent flame resistance

Technical Notes

  • Tensile strength: 33 kg/cm² (475 psi)
  • Elongation: 60% (rigid yet impact-resistant)
  • Dielectric strength: 20.1 kV/mm (510 V/mil)
  • Volume resistivity: 5.7 × 10¹⁴ Ω·cm
  • Linear shrinkage: 1.3%
  • Primer required for adhesion to non-silicone substrates (e.g., SS4155)

Cure options:

  • 24 hours at 25°C (handling strength)
  • 2 days at 25°C (full properties)
  • 1 hour at 100°C or 15 minutes at 150°C (accelerated)

Processing Recommendations

  • Mix Part A (black) and Part B (beige) 1:1 by weight in a clean container (4–5× material volume)
  • Stir thoroughly to ensure homogeneity; degas under 29 in. Hg vacuum to eliminate entrapped air
  • For automated dispensing, use meter-mix-degass systems compatible with addition-cure silicones

Storage

  • Storage: ≤ 27°C (80°F)

Packaging Options

  • Supplied in matched A/B kits of 10kg for manual or automated use
  • Ideal for high-volume potting operations in electronics manufacturing
