SILTRUST™ SS4179 – (Clear) Primer for Difficult-to-Bond Plastics
SILTRUST™ SS4179 is a one-component, ready to use, clear, colourless primer specifically engineered to promote adhesion between condensation cure RTV silicone rubber compounds and challenging plastic substrates. Its transparent formulation ensures no visual impact on light colored or finished surfaces, making it ideal for consumer, automotive, and industrial applications where both performance and aesthetics matter.
SS4179 is a low-solids (6%) solvent-based primer that dries rapidly at room temperature, typically in just 15 minutes, to form a reactive film that enables strong, durable silicone bonds to plastics that are otherwise difficult to adhere to, including acrylics, ABS, PVC, polycarbonate blends (e.g., Noryl®), polysulfones, and rigid polyesters.

Note: Always test for substrate compatibility; some plastics may craze with solvent exposure. Apply with a single, smooth stroke to reduce risk.

- Solvent system: Ethyl acetate, toluene, methanol
- Flash point: –3°C (27°F) – highly flammable
- Dry time: 15 minutes at 25°C (77°F) and ≥25% RH
- Film thickness: 0.01–0.02 mm (0.5 mil) recommended
- Storage: Keep container tightly closed; decant clear liquid if precipitate forms
- Compatible with brush, wipe, or dip application methods.
- Not recommended for spray application.
