SNAPSIL™ FRV1106 – Fuel and Solvent Resistant Fluorosilicone Adhesive Sealant

FRV1106 is a red, one-component, ready-to-use fluorosilicone adhesive sealant that cures at room temperature upon exposure to atmospheric moisture, forming a tough, resilient elastomer engineered specifically for harsh chemical, fuel, and hydrocarbon environments. Its non-sag paste consistency allows reliable application on horizontal, vertical, and overhead surfaces in bead thicknesses up to 6 mm (¼ inch), making it ideal for formed-in-place gaskets, tank seams, and fuel system sealing.

Unlike standard silicones, FRV1106 exhibits exceptional resistance to swelling and degradation when exposed to aviation fuels (e.g., JP-4), gasoline, toluene, mineral spirits, and silicone fluids, retaining mechanical integrity where conventional RTVs would fail. It releases acetic acid vapours during cure, so it is not suitable for use with copper, brass, or other acid-sensitive metals.

Key Features

  • Superior fluid resistance: Minimal swelling in fuels, solvents, and hydrocarbons
  • Wide service temperature range: –60°C to 204°C (–75°F to 400°F) continuous; short-term up to 260°C (500°F)
  • Paste consistency – stays in place without slumping
  • Room-temperature moisture cure – no mixing or heat required
  • Primerless adhesion to metals, glass, ceramics, and many plastics
  • Excellent electrical insulation, weatherability, and ozone resistance
  • Tack-free in 20 minutes – enables rapid handling

Typical Applications

  • Formed-in-place gaskets for fuel systems, chemical processing equipment, and solvent-handling assemblies
  • Sealing seams on liquid storage tanks and pipelines in chemical plants
  • Bonding and sealing of sensors in fuel tanks, aerospace fuel compartments, and automotive fuel rails
  • Industrial applications requiring long-term stability in aggressive chemical environments

Fluid Resistance Highlights (7-day immersion)

  • JP-4 fuel: 5.4% volume swell
  • Mineral spirits: 2.2% volume swell
  • Toluene: 16.6% volume swell
  • Fuel B: 17.9% volume swell
  • (Standard silicones may swell 50–100% or more under similar conditions)

Technical Notes

  • Cured hardness: 39 Shore A
  • Tensile strength: 3.33 MPa (485 psi)
  • Elongation: 200%
  • Tear strength: 0.42 MPa (61 psi)
  • Peel strength: 0.46 kg/mm (26 lb/in)
  • Maximum cure thickness: 6 mm (¼ in.)
  • Cure by-product: Acetic acid (strong odour during cure, dissipates after full cure)
  • Not for delicate electronics – corrosive to copper, brass, and other sensitive metals

Packaging Options

  • Supplied in 5.4 fl. oz. SEMCO® cartridges for use with manual or air-operated dispensing guns

Processing Recommendations

  • Apply to clean, dry, contaminant-free surfaces.
  • Full cure (3 mm thickness): ~24 hours at 25°C / 50% RH
  • Avoid use in confined spaces with poor ventilation due to acetic acid release
